Where did it start? With an idea. I have always been one of those people who picks up a project, goes crazy and then a week later, I am onto the next one. Then came ‘The Idea’. I have always been into the arts, whether it was dance, photography, painting, jewelry or music, it is a place I have always felt most comfortable. I always attributed my lack of focus to this. I need to multi-task. Always working on a project, or two or three, and now, I am doing what I have always dreamed.
So, I am sitting at dinner with my husband and I say “I have an idea”. Well, he quickly followed with “How much is this going to cost me?” I laughed, simply because I knew it was going to cost something, I just had no idea how much or how little. I presented him with what is now ‘David-Max: a home goods & artist boutique’.
I wanted to open a boutique in a historic area, where artisans could display their work, grow their business and someday spend their lives doing what they love, versus only when their 9-5 job allowed them to. He said, come up with a business plan. I don’t think he expected me to be as serious as I was. I was very serious. Weeks later (sooner than he expected, if at all) I told him there was something I had to show him. A business plan. Top to bottom. I knew who, what, when and where, just needed to figure out the how. And thanks to him, we did.
Now located at 187 Main Street in East Greenwich, a year later, David-Max is here and thriving. A small business made of many small businesses. I have collaborated with artisans throughout the region, to create a home for their works, a place to grow and share. In the 2300 sq ft space the walls are covered with photography, oil and watercolor paintings, sconces, mirrors, wine racks and memorabilia while the floors are a showcase for hand-painted furniture, luxurious upholstered chairs, cedar chests, handmade jewelry, candles, soaps, pet goods, cards, desk items, loomed blankets, home accessories and items for the baby in your life. David-Max is meant to be an experience, one that I want to share.
